Marieke Wieringa

sHAI @ InScience Festival

In the weekend of March 18 and 19, Marieke Wieringa (RU – sHAI labgroup member) and Dr. Barbara Müller (RU – sHAI labgroup member) were invited to conduct their research at the 8th edition of InScience, International Science Film Festival in Nijmegen. This yearly festival is one of the largest film festivals for scientific films in Europe. Besides screening films about science, the festival also offers the opportunity for visitors to participate in scientific research.

At the festival, Marieke Wieringa offered visitors the chance to participate in an experiment that she calls the Peg-Turning Dilemma. This experiment includes a dilemma that is designed to study the antecedents of prosocial behaviour towards robots.

Dr. Barbara Müller gave visitors the opportunity to play the text-based adventure game “Climate Crossroads”. In this game, developed by a group of researchers from the Radboud University, players need to travel back in time from the year 2050 to 2023 in order to fight rising temperatures by making a series of choices.

Altogether, it was a great experience to see science outside the typical walls of the university.
